Depression sites can be helpful for people who need support and guidance. A lot of web resources look like placed advertisements for depression medication or exclusive clubs but at http://www.beyondblue.org.au/ we noticed something different. The website has lots of basic and advanced level information about depression, Bipolar and anxiety disorders. You can also check out heartfelt stories of people who have faced depression. For victims of this strange disorder, such encouragement and this feeling of identification, of knowing that they are not alone, is very important.
Dealing with these mental disorders can be easy if you have the right help and support. But finding support from people around you can be difficult – especially because usually it is impossible to make someone understand what you are going through when the other person has never experienced it themselves. http://www.beyondblue.org.au/ offers advice and additional information on what you should do to help yourself out of your misery and how to deal with other people in troubled times. There is a lot of current research also available on the website.
The site also offers resources for people who wish to get involved with this initiative and who wish to render their services somehow. You can volunteer or donate or even help with fundraising. The easiest way to contribute perhaps is to share your experience and your stories with the website. If you are relatively new to depression or you haven’t been diagnosed with any disorder yet, you can use the http://www.beyondblue.org.au/ symptom checker to get an idea of what could be affecting you and whether you need help.
http://www.beyondblue.org.au/ is a portal suitable for health professionals as well as seekers of depression and mental disorder support. Beyond Blue is a non-profit organization working independently to increase depression awareness and to create opportunities for people with similar disorders. They also offer Clinical Practice Guidelines, Rural health information, Opportunities for older people, FREE accredited online training for health professionals and a national reference group. We found this website incredibly useful for people suffering from mental illnesses as well as for healthcare professionals and researchers.

In order to lose weight, a person must take in fewer calories and/or use up more calories in activity. Traditionally, that means eating a healthy, low-fat diet and getting more regular exercise. Sometimes, diet and exercise aren’t enough. Obese patients who have failed traditional weight loss programs may be candidates for surgery.

Traditionally, gastric bypass has been reserved for adults. However, more physicians are offering the treatment to obese teens. The National Institutes of Health says gastric bypass should only be offered for obese adolescents and teens who have tried to lose weight for at least six months and have not had success with traditional methods. Candidates need to have reached skeletal maturity (i.e., full adult height) and have weight-related health problems.

Treatments for OCD are intended to lower the patient’s anxiety level; some are thought to diminish the compulsions themselves. Alternative recommendations include the following:

* Bach flower remedies: White chestnut, for obsessive thoughts and repetitive thinking.
* Traditional Chinese medicine: a mixture of bupleurum and dong quai, to strengthen the spleen and regulate the liver. In Chinese medicine, obsessive-compulsive disorder is due to liver stagnation and a weak spleen.
* Aromatherapy: a mixture of lavender, rosemary, and valerian for relaxation.
* Yoga: Yogis in India developed a special technique of yogic breathing specifically for OCD. The specific yogic technique for treating OCD requires blocking the right nostril with the tip of the thumb; slow deep inspiration through the left nostril; holding the breath; and slow complete expiration through the left nostril. This is followed by a long breath-holding out period.
* Schuessler tissue salts: for OCD, 10 tablets of Ferrum phosphorica 30X and 10 tablets of Kali phosphorica 200X, twice daily.
* Massage therapy: with special emphasis on loosening the muscles in the neck, back, and shoulders.

There are several theories behind the cause of OCD. Some experts believe that OCD is related to a chemical imbalance within the brain that causes a communication problem between the front part of the brain (frontal lobe) and deeper parts of the brain responsible for the repetitive behavior. Research has shown that the orbital cortex located on the underside of the brain’s frontal lobe is overactive in OCD patients. This may be one reason for the feeling of alarm that pushes the patient into compulsive, repetitive actions. The higher-than-average rate of concurrent eating disorders in patients diagnosed with OCD has been attributed to the fact that hyperactivity in the orbital cortex is associated with both disorders. It is possible that people with OCD experience overactivity deep within the brain that causes the cells to get “stuck,” much like a jammed transmission in a car damages the gears. This could lead to the development of rigid thinking and repetitive movements common to the disorder. The fact that drugs which boost the levels of serotonin (a brain chemical linked to emotion) in the brain can reduce OCD symptoms may indicate that to some degree OCD is related to brain serotonin levels.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a type of anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder is the experience of prolonged, excessive worry about circumstances in one’s life. OCD is characterized by distressing repetitive thoughts, impulses or images that are intense, frightening, absurd, or unusual. These thoughts are followed by ritualized actions that are usually bizarre and irrational. These ritual actions, known as compulsions, help reduce anxiety caused by the individual’s obsessive thoughts. Often described as the “disease of doubt, ” the sufferer usually knows the obsessive thoughts and compulsions are irrational but, on another level, fears they may be true.

Teenagers are naturally curious about sex, that is a known fact that has been abused by Hollywood and other industries to sell products to teens. Everyone knows that hormones play a big part in this and we cannot control that, what we can control is their environment. But sometimes that doesn’t work either and they still manage to do it, this can be a cause of so much trouble that teens form the wrong ideas about sex.

If teens spend a lot of time in an environment that promotes and advertises sex then they have a higher risk of engaging in the activity without thinking of the consequences.

What is permissive parenting? It is when parents tend to give teenagers what they want, but within limits, of course. Limits or boundaries are the keys to successful parenting these days. Here are some other kinds of permissive parents:

1. General Confused Permissiveness – The most common type of parenting. These parents feels that being a friend to their teenage kids is the best thing. The downside is they literally give what their kids ask for.

2. Compensatory Permissiveness – Parents who were growing up poor want to give their kids everything they didn’t have. These include material things and behavioral freedom, which they are formerly denied.

3. Conditional Permissiveness – Parents give their teen children what they want as long as the kids will satisfy certain conditions. The terms are not usually explicit. Freedom and material goods are often rewarded if the teenagers are in their best behavior.

4. Indifferent Permissive – These are the typically busy parents who have no time to be actively involved with their kids’ life. Their excuse are often about other “real” problems like poverty, illness, etc.
